Its name in the Afar language is ''Qafar Uguugumoh Demokrasiyyoh Inkiinoh Fooca (Uguugumo)'', also known as Uguugumo, variantly spelled ''Uguguma'', ''Ugogomo'',〔(Report on Mission to Zone 2 (Afar National Regional State) ), United Nations Development Program.
